Equipment Leasing for the Fitness Industry
Fitness Leasing Company

America is one of the most prominent countries in the world. Pound for pound, we’re also the heaviest. According to a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, over a third of adults in the United States are now considered obese. Between 2009 and 2010, 35.7% of men and women in their twenties qualified as obese, with the percentages rising even higher for individuals over the age of forty. In addition to this segment, 16.9% of those surveyed under the age of twenty also qualified for this classification. It must be noted that obesity poses even greater health risks than being overweight, with symptoms that include hypertension, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, with even greater consequences arising as the condition persists. It is true that exercise benefits an individual for a range of reasons beyond losing weight, but it is clear from these numbers that America could stand to lose a few pounds. Once an individual takes those first steps, they soon find that their increased energy and improved body image give them the confidence to commit to a routine exercise regimen. And though obesity is up in America, so is health club membership.

Data from the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) shows that gym membership increased from 41.3 million in 2005 to 50.2 million in 2012. Not only is this substantial growth, it also proves that the fitness industry has weathered the Great Recession and continued to expand. With $21.8 billion in annual revenue and over 30,000 businesses in operation, and encompassing a wide array of services, equipment, nutrition and facilities, the fitness industry is a strong, resilient sector of American business. Though major companies account for about 30% of its revenue, smaller companies have proven effective competition
when ideally located and providing quality service.
