I am the executive director of Smooth Transition, Inc., a 7 year old, nonprofit 501(c) 3. Smooth Transition, Inc. serves to provide “at-risk” populations a path toward educational and employment opportunities thus enabling them to lead fulfilling, prosperous and purposeful lives.
Our recent project was to open a cafe that will provide underprivileged members of the community the opportunity to develop life skills and vocational training via hands on training with the overriding goal of preventing them from re-entering the foster and judicial system and repeating the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
We were in need of $15,000 in used, restaurant equipment to outfit the cafe. Being a nonprofit corporation, we had a difficult time locating a company that was able to finance our requests. We asked our equipment vendor for a recommendation and he suggested we call Matrix Business Capital.
The team at Matrix were miracle workers! As the Executive Director of a small non-profit with big plans, they were able to help us achieve our goals and serve many disadvantaged individuals in the community.
Although we have a great success rate and excellent community support, our nonprofit statutes do not meet the traditional funding criteria, specifically that we are required by the IRS to return profits back to programs rather than show large profits at the ends of each year.
We were a long shot, and they took a chance on us when nobody else would. The staff at Matrix was professional, efficient and timely. We could not be more pleased and we plan to use them in more projects going forward.
